Having a perfect set of white teeth can figuratively make people shine. We have often wondered at how celebrities were able to get such pearly white teeth (well, they do have the means to pay for expensive dental treatments). A common problem for a vast majority of people is having yellowed or stained teeth. There are various ways to get whiter teeth, which may range from at-home natural treatments to visits to your reliable dentist.
As we age, our teeth naturally yellows because of the harsh substances that we expose our teeth into. Bad hygiene is one of the big causes. Not only does it yellows the teeth, it also causes gum problems and tooth infections. Another factor has something to do with the food and drinks that we consume. Coffee, wine, and tea has properties that can stain the teeth, therefore making it appear yellowish. Smoking is also another factor, it leaves nasty stains on the teeth. In some cases, genetics has something to do with this as well. If a family member has this problem, then it’s most likely that another family member may have this as well. Yellow teeth may appear even in childhood.
METHODS TO GET WHITER TEETH
Now that we have determined the common causes of yellowed teeth, there are many ways that you can do to make them white again. This is great because these are really cheap alternatives.
1. Baking Soda
We all know that baking soda helps in making cake batters rise, but it’s also an ingredient that may aid in whitening the teeth. All you have to do is to soak your toothbrush in cold water and then dip the tips of the bristles in the baking soda. Proceed to brushing your teeth like you normally would. And then rinse your mouth afterwards. If you feel that your mouth is too salty, brush your teeth again using regular toothpaste. In a few days, you will find that the stains on your teeth will be greatly reduced.
Add a few drops of lemon juice on your toothbrush and then brush your teeth. This is a slow process though, but it also yields good results. Plus, it’s really cheap since you can find lemons virtually anywhere.
3. At-Home Whitening Strips
There are products available in your nearest drug stores that may have whitening strips. It may be a little bit pricey as compared to your natural alternatives but way cheaper than having it done on a dentist’s chair. Try not to use the product as often than what is necessary. It may cause your teeth to become sensitive. This is probably not recommended for those who suffer from tooth sensitivity.
4. Quit Smoking
As mentioned earlier, smoking leaves nasty stains on your teeth. The best way for you to avoid getting teeth stains is to stop smoking. It’s as simple as that. However, if you find it really difficult to kick the habit, don’t forget to brush your teeth frequently in order to keep stained teeth at bay.
5. Sugarless Gum
Believe it or not, chewing sugarless gum is effective in preventing teeth stains (and it freshens your breath too).
Regular checkups with your dentist can definitely help in maintaining the overall state of health (and whiteness) of your teeth. Good oral hygiene can definitely keep yellowed teeth at bay. These effective methods to get whiter teeth can surely give you a reason to smile.
